statement

I use multiple images and juxtaposition to create a temporal relationship in my paintings. I recombine images from paintings, photographs, newspapers and books as a means of re-contextualizing the familiar. My work questions what is expected of a painting, and how an audience is expected to interact with it both as an object and an idea. I do this by altering how the work typically engages a viewer. I paint portraits that are made uneasy by the spectator's gaze, a still life that is crushed into a flat space, and landscapes that are upended and disorienting.
