statement

I take a classical approach to oil painting while infusing a contemporary twist. Exploring the structural landscape we currently reside in, my work investigates the use of abstraction as a way of moving through space.  Allowing my work to act as a metaphoric voice for contemporary social and cultural concerns, I question the permanence of the built world surrounding us.  Overlapping time and memory through technique and layering.  Translating drawn architectural lines, geometric shapes, and using instinctual responses to construct and deconstruct the composition, balance and harmony are created by choosing what to reveal and conceal. Colors are added, not to reflect what is there on the surface, but to capture the feeling of the subject or my inner response at that time. Like a medley of microcosms coming together to form the whole, so is the layering of the endeavors of life echoed within my artwork.
