Even for professional artists, it can be difficult to find time for creative work every day. Sketchbooks Even as artists, finding time for creative work in our daily lives can be difficult. Sketchbooks present a fantastic solution: they are an accessible way to create small art routines that grow into art adventures. Through Everyday Sketchbook, students will develop a personal drawing practice, observing why and how they make and consciously altering their making processes. By the end of class, students will have a grasp of their sketchbooks as both a playground for ideas and an art object.
Everyday Sketchbook is for students with a basic understanding of drawing who want to deepen their practice. While the class will be focused more on drawing, students who want to explore different media in their sketchbooks are welcome to do so. Make sure whatever medium you chose transports easily- field trips will be part of the class!

• Sketchbook
A sturdy sketchbook such as the Strathmore 400 series Field Sketch Book or 500 series Mixed Media Journal
If you have a favorite sketchbook brand and size already, please bring it in. If you don’t have a favorite but you want to know more about picking the right sketchbook for your practice (size, what media you prefer), please review the guide (see pdf link above).

• Erasers – retractable (such as Tombow mono) and kneaded
Level of Study: This class is suggested for individuals with some drawing experience. Basic knowledge of observational drawing processes will be helpful, but such knowledge can also be established via practice during this course. If students choose a more expansive media list (to include painting, collage, etc.), they should have some familiarity with those materials and processes.
LOCATION: Unless otherwise specified, all courses are hosted at Manifest's new facility at 'M1' in Clifton at 3464 Central Parkway (see map and directions below). Manifest's new facility provides multiple studio classrooms, private lesson space, a darkroom, a film processing room, and a multi-purpose lecture and class meeting space as well as on-site parking, grounds, and exterior spaces in which to relax, discuss, and make art. The studios are outfitted with professional equipment, furniture, and study aids.

About the instructor:
Hanna Sosin is a fine artist, illustrator, and sketchbook aficionado with a degree in Biochemistry. She is currently one of Manifest’s 2022-2023 Artists in Residence. Hanna's drawings and paintings sew together the edges of natural science, fantasy, and humor into unexpected narratives and worlds. Her art displays the wonder in shifting perspectives and embracing delight as a foundational practice. Hanna's works have been exhibited in regional group and solo shows including at Manifest Gallery, the Scarab Club, and the Royal Oak Public Library. Coming up and solo shows including at the Royal Oak Public Library, the Scarab Club, and Manifest Gallery.
