Description: Learn about some of the most exciting ways to experiment with the tools, materials, and processes of darkroom photography.
In this course, students will be introduced to:
- Print and Negative Manipulation: This will include solarization, creating double exposures by sandwiching negatives together, and physically altering negatives.
- Surface Experimentation with Cyanotype: Cyanotype, one of the earliest photographic processes, makes use of simple chemistry and sunlight or other UV light source. The Cyanotype process allows making imagery on a variety of surfaces.
- Lumen and Contact Prints: Lumen printing is a camera-less process that uses b/w photo paper which is exposed to the Sun or other UV light source. Imagery is created the same manner as a photogram, found objects are placed directly on the paper or large scale negatives can be used.
- Instant Film & Emulsion Lifts: Polaroids take on a whole new life when their emulsion layer is separated and the image stretched onto a new surface.
