Description: Building on a recognition and respect for available light, this class will introduce the use of artificial lighting and light modifying techniques to expand photographic possibilities. Expanding past many of our efforts in earlier Photography Essentials classes, digital photography will be used for this class, and instruction on digital organization/file management will also be covered.
Students will:
- Work with a variety of artificial light sources including: on camera flash, studio strobes and continuous lights.
- Learn about various light modifiers and how they affect the quality of light.
- Be introduced to single and multiple light set-ups.
- Explore mixing artificial light with available light.
Materials List/Unique Prerequisites for Introduction to Lighting only:
- A DSLR Camera* capable of full manual setting and with hot shoe for triggering strobe.
- A Tripod (The Drawing Center has several that can be checked out.)
- A general understanding of the manual modes within the camera settings (This information will be gained along the way for any students enrolled in the full cycle of Photography Essentials.)
*Before the first meeting of Introduction to Lighting, enrolled students will be asked to share the make and model of their camera(s) so that the instructor can be better prepared to guide/troubleshoot.
