Description
Drawing machines have been used throughout history to help artists record the world around them. It has been theorized that lenses, mirrors, and other aids were used by the great masters to help them make drawings and paintings both in their studios and out in the landscape.
Artist Pablo Garcia will visit the Drawing Center to discuss the history of drawing machines. Garcia will also be demonstrating the various uses of the “NeoLucida”, a re-envisioned, accessible version of the historical “camera lucida”. Following the demo students will create their own drawings under Garcia's guidance, working from both Manifest's plaster cast collection as well as from the live model.
The NeoLucida is the first portable, authentic camera lucida to be manufactured in nearly a century. Join this class to learn the use of a new (old) tool to aid your drawing practice and to understand art history in a provocative new way!
